How to read emails received on a Debian Server

When you login onto Debian console it shows "You have mail", it means that the system has sent you some emails. You can read the mail with the mail command. mail should be installed by default on a Debian system, it comes from the mailutils package.



mail -u user

to read the mail for certain user

To figure out commands for use:

man mail

or press ? after you've executed the mail command.

There are better ways to read the mail. More user-friendly mail readers are cone and alpine. All of these are packaged by Debian and can be installed by apt-get.
